Audrey (Haines) Daniels
Athlete Category
Audrey (Haines) Daniels was an outstanding pitcher in Winnipeg and the USA. In 1943 at age 17, she helped St. Vital Tigerettes win the Greater Winnipeg senior A championship, She played in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1944-1948 and again in 1951. In 1950 and 1953, Audrey was an all-star pitcher for the senior A Winnipeg Ramblers.
 
 
Dorothy (Ferguson) Key
Athlete Category
Dorothy (Ferguson) Key, who was born in Virden, played for St. Vital Tigerettes when the team won Winnipeg intermediate championships in 1941 and 1942 and the senior A title in 1943. From 1945 to 1954 she was with the Rockford Peaches of the AAPGBL. A lead-off hitter with great speed, she played second base and centre field. Dorothy passed away in Rockford in 2003.
 
 
Mary (Laidlaw) Lasuta
Athlete Category
An outfielder and catcher, Mary Laidlaw played for Dan Davidson’s and Ramblers of the Greater Winnipeg Senior Girls League during the late 1940s and the 1950s. A top hitter throughout her career, she won the league batting title in 1951 with a.400 average. In 1954, the league recognized her for her defensive ability. Mary passed away Dec. 28, 2004.
 
 
Greeta (Neal) MacLean
Athlete Category
Greeta (Neal) MacLean was a top pitcher for St. Boniface Athletics of the Greater Winnipeg Senior Girls League from 1939 to 1949 except for 1947, which she sat out due to an auto accident. In her first game in 1948, she pitched a perfect game, the second of her career and the fourth no-hitter. Greeta pitched in the team’s last 15 games enroute to the championship and was selected to the all-star team and playoff MVP. The St. Boniface Athletics teams from 1944-1948 were inducted into the HOF in 2003.
 
 
Joe Shaddy
Athlete Category
In 1936 at age 16, Joe Shaddy started pitching senior softball with Stan Evans Style Shop. After a season in Bissett, he returned to Winnipeg and pitched in the Mercantile League. In 1944 and 1946, the right-handed orthodox chucker played a major role in Globelites winning the Western Canadian Fastball Championship and was league MVP in 1946. He also played outfield during his 13-year career. Joe and his Globelites team-mates will be inducted into the HOF in the team category in May 2005.
 
 
Alex Shastal
Athlete Category
Alex Shatsal is remembered by his peers as one of the best outfielders and hitters in Manitoba during the 1940s and early 1950s. He played with Brown Bombers, Margaret Rose Maroons and Sashmen before joining Northern Hotel in 1950. The team won the Manitoba championship the next two years. The following season he was a member of the Western Canadian champions, Ukrainian Legion Branch 141. The team also won Manitoba in 1952. Alex and his Northern Hotel/Legion 141 team-mates will be inducted into the HOF in the team category in May 2005.
 
 
Doreen (Ingram) Thomas
Athlete Category
A native of Oakville, Doreen (Ingram) Thomas joined the CUAC Blues senior A team in 1954 at age 15. A pitcher who also was a good hitter, she was selected as an all-star several times during her eight years with the team. CUAC won the Western Canadian championship in 1957. She also helped Blues win Manitoba the next four years. After the 1961 season, Doreen moved to Saskatchewan where she passed away in 1995. She and her CUAC team-mates for the 1957-1962 period will be inducted into the HOF in the team category in May 2005.
 
 
Minnie (Peiluck) Trybell
Athlete Category
Minnie (Peiluck) Trybell started playing intermediate softball with IPAC in 1939 at age 13 and was pitching at the senior level at 16 with CUAC Blues. In her second season, she led the Greater Winnipeg Senior Girls League in hitting with a .466 average. After several outstanding seasons on the mound with CUAC, the very popular Minnie moved to Ramblers. She continued to be one of the best players in the league until she retired after the 1955 season.
 
 
Joyce Tully
Athlete Category
At age 16, Joyce Tully played senior with Brandon Curlys, a team that lost the provincial championship to CUAC Blues. The next year she was in a Blues uniform and played with CUAC until 1973. During that period Blues won 17 provincial championships in a row and the 1957 Western Canadian title. Joyce and her team-mates also won the first Canadian senior women’s title in 1965 and were inducted into the HOF as a team in 2002. A versatile player, she played first and second base and pitched and was a power hitter who usually hit clean-up.
 
 
Janet (Beckwith) Vickery
Athlete Category
Janet (Beckwith) Vickery was an outstanding shortstop for the St. Vital/West Kildonan Tigerettes from 1946 to the early 1950s. A smooth fielder, she also was an excellent hitter who led the Greater Winnipeg Senior Girls League in batting in 1947 with a .346 average. The Winnipeg Free Press named Janet to its first-ever all-star team that season and she was the only player again selected to the team the next two years. The 1949-1954 St. Vital/West Kildonan Tigerettes teams were inducted into the HOF in 2004.
 
 
Kathleen Penner
All-Around Category
Kathleen Penner is being inducted in the all-around category in recognition for her accomplishments and contributions as an official, player and administrator. In 1969, she was the first female to be registered as an umpire in Manitoba. She has officiated at the provincial, regional and national levels and was president of the Winnipeg Softball Umpires Association from 1994-98. As a player, she competed nationally five times at the junior and senior levels. Kathleen was president of the Winnipeg and District Ladies Softball League from 1972-77 and served on the executive until 1998.
 
 
Vic Pidhirny
All-Around Category
Vic Pidhirny certainly qualifies for induction in the all-around category. He played for the Portage Mercurys senior team that was inducted in to the HOF in 2003. He coached senior women’s softball in Portage and was named Softball Manitoba’s top senior coach in 1982. He served as president of Softball Manitoba from 1977 to 1980 and was a member of the board of governors from 1983-1989. He also served as Softball Canada’s commissioner in Manitoba for several years in the 1980s. Vic was the second president of the Manitoba Softball HOF and Museum Inc. and played a major role in having the facility located in Portage la Prairie. He is a Softball Manitoba honourary life member.
 
 

1944-1947 Globelite Batteris Senior Men

Team Category

Globelite Batteries won the Winnipeg and Manitoba senior men’s championship four consecutive years from 1944 to 1947. In 1944, the team was the first from Manitoba to win the Western Canadian Fastball Championship and it won the title again in 1946. In 1947, Globelites lost to Saskatoon in the Western final.
 
 

1948-1950 Morden Whiz/Bangs Women

Team Category

Morden Whiz-Bangs will be the first team from a smaller Manitoba community to be inducted in the HOF. The team of students from Maple Leaf Collegiate started playing under the Whiz-Bangs name in 1948. The team had its greatest success from 1948 to 1950 playing in tournaments in Canada and the USA as well as exhibition games against top Winnipeg senior teams and touring US teams. Over that three-year period, Whiz-Bangs won 61 games and lost 21.

1957-1962 CUAC Blues Senior Women

Team Category

A dynasty began in 1957 when CUAC Blues won the provincial championship and went on to win the Western Canadian title. CUAC then won 16 straight senior women’s provincial crowns and the 1965 national championship. The 1965 team was inducted into the HOF with the first group of inductees in 2002. This year the teams that won those first six provincial championships will be honoured as per the HOF criteria where teams can only be nominated for a maximum of six years.
